The Mandel School for Educational Leadership, founded in 1991 in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, operates within the Mandel Leadership Institute in Jerusalem. This two-year leadership development program is unique in terms of its scope, subject matter, and method of study.
The goal of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership is to develop and foster influential leaders with vision to spearhead the advancement of education in Israel. The program is targeted at fellows with professional and managerial experience who have the ability to lead significant change in education.
The program is based on the belief that educational leaders must be guided by a profound, practical vision that emerges from the interrelationship between established theory and effective practice. Together and individually, the fellows develop their visions in an intensive, challenging setting that provides them with the opportunity to study and investigate the field of education first-hand and in a significant manner, while encountering leading experts in a variety of fields. For an in-depth illustration of the type of learning that takes place at the Mandel School for Educational Leadership, please see this presentation of one of our courses.
We believe that vision-guided leadership is required to bring about substantial educational change. Thus leadership and vision are at the heart of the training concept of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership. The fellows hone their vision while delving into conceptual, cultural, and social foundations.
Emphasis is placed on the development of personal and professional identity, formation of a worldview, strategic planning, decision-making, and implementation of policy.
Targeted at fellows who have amassed professional and managerial experience, the program is practical -- it strives towards linking a clear vision with the complex, challenging field of education.
The learning environment includes optimal conditions for learning and development:
- Monthly stipend for two years
- Meetings with experts and advisors and an accessible expert faculty
- Budget for purchasing research materials
- Supportive learning environment--comfortable classrooms and well-equipped computer resources
