Founded in 1923, at the University of Illinois, Hillel has grown into the largest and most inclusive Jewish campus organization in the world. Serving over 850 colleges and universities in the United States, Hillel fosters Jewish identity, combats antisemitism, and provides a supportive community for Jewish students. The Mandel Foundation began providing major support to Hillel in early 2025, through an investment in the Jewish Talent Platform, a collaborative initiative with BBYO, Leading Edge, Foundation for Jewish Camp and other organizations to address gaps in the Jewish professional pipeline. Building on this investment, a $7.9 million grant was allocated directly to Hillel to support the launch of a student leadership initiative for Jewish college students. Funding supports staff professional development, student leadership fellowships, global, national and regional convenings, and the expansion of digital leadership development opportunities.
